Air Force Airmen Set Himself On Fire

Tragic Loss: US Air Force Serviceman Dies After Self-Immolation Outside Israeli Embassy

Active-Duty Member Succumbs to Injuries

Washington, D.C. – February 28, 2024

The United States Air Force and the Metropolitan Police Department regretfully announce the passing of Aaron Bushnell, a 25-year-old active-duty serviceman who succumbed to his injuries on February 28, 2024, three days after setting himself on fire outside the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C.

On February 25, 2024, Bushnell, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, arrived at the embassy located on Massachusetts Avenue NW and set himself ablaze. First responders and embassy security personnel immediately extinguished the flames and transported him to a local hospital, where he received urgent medical care.

Authorities disclosed that Bushnell's actions were an apparent protest against the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The motive for his self-immolation is still under investigation, but sources close to the investigation indicate that Bushnell had expressed concerns about the humanitarian toll of the escalating violence.

The Air Force and the Metropolitan Police Department extend their deepest condolences to Bushnell's family, friends, and fellow service members. They are cooperating closely to gather further information and provide support during this difficult time.
