Sean Dyche rues failure to take chances as Everton suffer Carabao Cup exit
Toffees boss admits his side should have been braver in their approach against Manchester United
Everton manager Sean Dyche has admitted that his side should have been braver in their approach as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Toffees took the lead through Conor Coady in the fifth minute, but Antony equalised for United just seven minutes later.
Marcus Rashford then put United ahead in the 52nd minute, before Bruno Fernandes sealed the victory with a third goal in the 85th minute.
"We should have been braver," Dyche said after the game.
"We had a good start and got the goal, but we didn't really build on that.
"We were too respectful of Manchester United and we didn't take enough chances.
"We had a few opportunities to get back into the game, but we didn't take them.
"We need to be more clinical in front of goal and we need to be braver in our approach.
"We're disappointed with the result, but we need to learn from it and move on.
Everton will now turn their attention to the Premier League, where they are 19th in the table and just one point above the relegation zone.
Dyche's side will host Southampton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
